What more can I say? Gluten-free fish-fry in Wisconsin! One of the few places that offer it and it was just as good as we expected. It’s a small place, so go early, but good is great and the Tiki atmosphere is excellent! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Dietary restrictions: 100% Gluten-free!

I visited Wauwatiki Bar & Grill with high hopes and expectations. My boyfriend and I decided to sit outside, as the interior seemed overly-dark. The menu has an extensive drink list with accompanying pictures. The drinks ranged between $8-$12. The pictures illustrate decorative, large glasses that the drinks come in, but if you sit outside, you only get your drink in a medium-sized plastic cup. We ordered the Mai Tai to share, along with the Hawaiian Pulled Pork sandwich and Black Bean Burger. The Mai Tai arrived within five minutes, and was filled with ice to the brim. After one sip, the drink tasted like straight-up rum with a splash of grenadine. The copious amount of ice did not seem to help as it melted. I refused to drink it due to it being so strong. Little did we know the night would only get worse. Our food took an unusually long time to arrive. Other tables that were seated after us received their food quicker. Over twenty minutes of painfully sipping the Mai Tai, our food finally arrived. The sandwiches were small and served on gluten-free toast (as were all sandwiches on the menu). The "seasoned" fries were coated in a "special" spice, which appeared to be some sort of a Mexican-spice blend, and a ton of salt. I immediately noticed that my sandwich had bacon on it, which we thought was unusual since a black bean burger would surely be vegetarian, based on the menu description. Upon opening the sandwich, a small piece of overly-charred chicken sat on top a wilted leaf of lettuce and some diced tomatoes. This was no black bean burger. We were waiting for our waitress to come out so we could send the sandwich back, but after minutes of waiting, I settled for the overly-seasoned fries, which were so salty, you couldn't pick up your cup of water without coating the cup in salt. I tried taking a bite of the chicken sandwich after waiting now for fifteen minutes for our waitress, as I was starving at this point. Unsurprisingly, the chicken was just as salty, if not more, than the fries. Neither of us could take more than one bite of it. So now I was left with not only the wrong sandwich, but also a sandwich that was inedible. My boyfriend's pulled pork sandwich was fine, but nothing special. After my boyfriend finished his pulled pork, we still had been waiting for now half an hour for our waitress to check-in on us. We impatiently flagged down a male waiter who was serving other tables, as our waitress apparently went astray. He had a perplexed look on his face and said, "sorry," but did not seem too shocked. He asked if we wanted him to bring the correct sandwich to us, but we declined as I refused to wait for a new sandwich to be cooked and then eat it after my boyfriend had already finished his dinner. The whole night was just a big mistake. Our waitress quickly hurried out to us after a few minutes and apologized and stated that she would be mad too since she is a vegetarian. Had I been a vegetarian and served a bacon chicken sandwich with very poor service, we would have complained more, but we were too exhausted with frustration and annoyance. Our waitress said she would take the burger off our bill and asked if we wanted another drink or dessert. We declined and asked for the check. At this point, we just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. This dinner will forever leave a strong distaste in my mind.
