The year is 2099. Nuclear fallout from WW3 has ravaged much of the world's food supply. Raiders patrol the streets, picking on anyone stupid enough to cross their path. The United Nations has completely disbanded, with every government busy trying to keep their own people fed, clothed, and sheltered.Where am I? I'm in the Naperville Crossings area, a lucky survivor of the nuclear fallout. After many careful hours of moving building to building, cover to cover, I have finally found a strip mall that was not ravaged in the years following the war.Somehow, against all the odds, a single restaurant has survived the war, Wild Tuna. This might be the last place to eat in the city, maybe the whole world. While I marvel at this store's tenacity, a group of raiders peel out from Showplace. I have two options: die to the raiders or enter in Wild Tuna Contemporary Sushi.I close my eyes, and as I hear the screams of the raiders approach, I accept my fate.Wild Tuna is *that* bad.As a whole, Wild Tuna embodies the moniker "Style over substance." My order consisted of:TempuraEel BowlTuna / Salmon RollOut of those three. I would consider only the roll to be passable. The eel bowl was disappointing - 6 pieces of eel and a bowl of rice for $25. For context, at a decent sushi restaurant, that would be $6 or $7. I was upset, but after that, I ordered tempura as a last ditch effort - excellent tempura is a delicacy, but tempura is like pizza, even bad tempura is good tempura. When I took my first bite, I was shocked, I felt like Dante discovering that there was in fact, an 8th level of hell. I truly sunk to a new culinary low.I thought, "This must be a mistake, maybe this one piece they messed up." So I took a bite out of another. Then another. Then another. Eventually, I gave up and just took it home with me.Maybe my dogs would like it? Wrong. One bite of this tempura and my dog left the room. A DOG doesn't want to eat this tempura.If you are looking for good sushi. Jeez, if you're looking for passable sushi, do not go here. This place is super trendy and fun, so if you want to get drunk with a whole bunch of middle aged white people on $12 bloody mary's then wow do I have a place for you. Otherwise, skip Wild Tuna.There's not many good options in the area. However, there's a restaurant that is cheaper, tastier, and trendier: Blue Sushi Sake Grill in Downtown Naperville. Please, please, please, do yourself a favor and steer clear of Wild Tuna.
