I've been wanting to try this place for so long.. it really let me down. I want to start off many saying I am very familiar with all these flavors and Taiwanese food. This place just missed the mark for me.. not sure if the cooks are getting careless with attention to detail or what because they had such high ratings.. To start, my friend and I were seated at the table right next to the door which was weird because there were other tables open.. then the server came around with waters but walked right passed out table and gave water to the table who had been seated about 5 minutes after us.. then when he was heading back to the kitchen I stopped him and asked if we could get some water too. He gave me a very confused look and then said "sure" . That made me feel pretty uncomfortable.. but a young woman ended up bringing us out our waters, then we ordered a Lychee colada and a Guava Margarita, the drinks were okay but really not strong or mind blowing so not worth it.. We ordered a Taiwanese beef roll, a scallion pancake and the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The Taiwanese beef roll was what I was most excited about however it was really just beef and cucumbers wrapped in a scallion pancakes. Nothing stood out to me when I bit into it, the cucumbers weren't bursting with freshness, the meat was flavorless and we just had two pancakes on the table. The scallion pancake was burnt and I was actually kind of surprised they served it to us like that, also it had little to no flavor. And what was supposed to be the star of the show, the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, was lacking in spices and flavor as well.. and the noodles weren't cooked all the way.. I feel so bad because I always love everything on convoy! But on this visit to Formoosa, it just felt like there was a lack of everything going on from the service to the kitchen.. before we paid they young woman said if we left a review we we would get a discount and she asked if we would mention her by name.. I don't want to do that as this isn't a positive review but the her names starts with an N and the boy with an A.

This spot always comes up on Yelp for all its reviews and I have even seen a couple of YouTubers mention it so we decided to give it a try especially since we have been on a Taiwanese food kick lately. It's in a crazy parking lot lol but if you are patient you can snag a spot, otherwise just park on the side street nearby. There are a lot of cool restaurants so it's a great place to hang out and then go get some boba or dessert afterwards too. The restaurant itself is designed like a Japanese omakase spot with the bar in the middle and stools in a rectangle around it. There are a few tables but not a ton. Maybe we would have had a better experience sitting at the bar because it felt like it took quite a while for us to get service and get our bill even though there were only two other parties inside, but it also seemed like the guy was training the two girls working there so that may have contributed. We ordered the beef roll as an appetizer and the beef noodle soup. The beef roll was STUFFED with tender braised beef and cucumbers wrapped in a spring onion pancake. I liked that the pancake was crispy and that the roll itself was not oily or too juicy causing it to be soggy at all. The beef noodle soup immediately took me back to Taiwan. The broth had a distinct Taiwanese flavor with a hint of five spice in a clean beefy broth with beef that was tender and firm at the same time. It came with springy noodles, bok choy and a perfectly cooked soy sauce egg. Based on pictures I was expecting thicker wavy noodles but looks like they switched to the long stick type noodles. The noodles soaked up the broth perfectly without becoming soggy so you got so much flavor in every bite. Overall I think this is one of my best experiences with authentic, yet elevated Taiwanese food.

Great place for smaller parties. The place isn't large and the setup is intimate. Great spot for a 2 person date night to get your noodles fixation in. Any group larger than 4 people could find a hard time sitting. Service was prompt and food was good. If you come to late they do sell out of their ribbon noodles so you'll have to opt for the regular ones.
