Puli. It’s the geographical center of Taiwan. Which is perfect, because it’s exactly the right distance away from all my ex-girlfriends. I stumbled into Night Alley Kitchen and, I have to say, the decor is stunning . It’s clean, it’s modern, it has real chairs it’s basically everything you could want in a small Taiwan eatery, and it’s open late like beyond 7 pm late! It’s incredibly stylish; it looks better than my most recent wardrobe update from NET, and that’s saying something. Let’s talk about the tacos. They are spectacular. Usually, when I’m promised a "taco" in rural Taiwan, I expect a soggy pancake filled with corn and regret. These were the real deal. They’re so good I’d almost—almost—be willing to pay the full VAT on them. And the poutine? Authentic poutine in the mountains of Taiwan? It’s like finding a politician who’s telling the truth—rare, confusing, but ultimately very satisfying. It’s cheese, gravy, and fries. It’s maybe a heart attack in a bowl, which is why they invented Ozempic right? The owner is also incredibly friendly and caring. It was not a shock at all in Taiwan , but this one seemed very genuine and not just in a you’re a new customer sort of way. really. They actually seem to care if you enjoy the meal. It’s unsettling, but lovely. If you’re in Puli and you don’t eat here, you’re an idiot. And I should know, I’ve been accused of being the same enough times.
