If you want to come to a bar where the "bartender" cannot break the tin, this is the place for you. Came here around 6pm on 8/22 and they had a trainee who literally could not break the tin that had my drink for like 10 minutes. It was totally diluted by the time they actually served it to me and the actual bartender didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Total insanity. Word to management - please at least offer HH prices for patrons when you are training your staff. We paid over $20 per drink after tax and tip. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: $20–30

Here's the interesting thing about Inkwell: they have a set number of tables and don't do "standing room." This means that they only allow in a controlled number of customers. No free seats? Then you'll be waiting. This was the case when I visited with my partner. We waited about a half hour for a table and were eventually seated right next to the bar. A very visible spot! The waitress literally had to walk directly by us every time she picked up drinks. Despite this, we were completely ignored the entire time we were there. The waitress never once checked on us. We had to flag her down in order to get any drinks and she seemed altogether annoyed that we had the audacity to order drinks in a cocktail bar. We also had to flag her down to eventually get our check. You would think that, given how small the bar is and how long the wait can get, the staff would be eager to turn over tables by, well, paying attention to them and getting orders through. This was not the case. Because our waitress was devoted to denying our existence, we eventually tried to get service at the bar instead. The bartenders were likewise perturbed that we would do such a thing, apparently interpreting it as a great slight. Overall, I'm confused how a place that treats its customers with such disdain can actually stay afloat. The atmosphere is fine. The drinks are okay. No more impressive than any other pretentious cocktail bar. But the service? Miserable. A big skip on this place. You could blindly stumble through random doorways in West Loop and have a good chance of entering a bar that offers similarly overdone drinks with much better service. Give it a try. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $20–30
